I'm an Interaction, User Interface and User Experience Designer living and working in Boston. I have a background in Human Factors and User Centered Design, and have over 10 years of experience designing web, mobile, and embedded UIs. I'm currently serving as the Principal Interaction Designer at Essential.
Below is a sampling of work I've done over the last few years, but I'm not at liberty to publicly show any work from my current position. Please get in touch to see what else I've done. Thanks for looking.

Red Bull
redbull.com
User Experience, Interaction Design, CSS/XHTML Development.
Red Bull had a problem: they didn't know how to use the internet. Well that's a bit hyperbolic, but when they engaged with The Barbarian Group, they had over 900 microsites and no way for anyone to know how to get to any of them. We developed an online strategy that would use redbull.com as that platform to get to any and all Red Bull content. They had HD video but no place to show it. They had high resolution photos but no way good way to publish them. We let the content drive the site, and used it to create a huge content respository that would reach out to the internet and drive traffice back to the central source.
I worked with a small core team and drove all the user experience and interaction details, and even got my hands dirty with some front end development during crunchtime. It was a wonderful learning experience to account for all the different needs of an organization that needed to be localized to over 50 regions around the world, in over 15 languages.

Bluefin Labs
Game Rewind
User Experience, Interaction Design.
Bluefin Labs is a Boston-based startup that has developed a remarkable video searching and analytics algorithm that allows fans to track their favorite teams, specific players, key plays throughout a season. The algorithm is smart enough to pinpoint specific plays, but also provide a snapshot of the social media discussion that was happening about that play as it was happening. They partnered with a major professional sports league to explore some concepts around how that video technology could be used to create an online "game rewind" experience and asked us to help them envision the experience.
I lead the initial discussion of use cases, and generated all the annotated wireframes that would be used to explain the details of the web application to an offsite development partner. This included various iterations on the social media/video player and general interactions with the site.

Kashi
Natural Nearby
Interaction Design, Visual Design.
Kashi was a longtime client of The Barbarian Group, and they wanted to create another tool for the active user community on kashi.com–a user generated database for stores and services that Kashi consumers thought others might also find helpful. A pet grooming place that was mindful of the environment, a natural food store that was off the beaten path, a restaurant that served only locally-grown food; all tied into an interactive map and listing database that led you rate each listing as well as provide images and foster a conversation around it.
I lead the UX, interaction and visual design effort on this project, getting help from a junior UX designer and rounding the rest of the details myself, from the interaction to the final, usable assets for development.

Art We Love
artwelove.com
User Experience, Interaction Design.
The founders of AWL came to The Barbarian Group with a vision to be central repository for artists and their artwork on the internet. It was to be a hub of art knowlege and sharing, and learning about the interconnectedness of all artists; their history, influences, artwork, shows, and related artists.
I was tasked with thinking through the core concepts of what the site was about, figuring out how people would traverse the potentially gigantic site structure, and coming up a standard set of interactions to use the site.
They've since changed the focus of the site (it now defaults to an artwork shopping portal), but the central core of the site is still there.

Microsoft
adCenter Desktop
Information Architecture, Interaction & UI Design.
In order to compete in the extremely competitive Search Marketing arena, Microsoft decided that a desktop application which was tailored to the needs of the hardcore Search Marketer would give them an edge.
They had a few basic features in mind, but needed: help brainstorming different types of tasks for the voluminous data these users deal with daily; to design a UI that was intuitive and scalable for the complex procedures their users performed; and they wanted it all to possibly fit within their suite of Office applications.

Information Architecture, Interaction & UI Design, Visual Design, CSS/XHTML Development.
The public transportation group of the Boston metro area needed to redesign their web presence from the groundup; everything was to be scrapped and an entirely new framework, design and implementation was to be launched. They needed to give their regular users tools to help them on their daily commutes, but still have it accessible for out-of-towners and the neverending rush of new residents that come here every fall.
A new featureset, a new design, new kinds of interaction - all with standards-compliant XHTML & CSS and 508c accessibility compliance.
The site went on to win a few awards that year, including the Webby for Best Government site.

Kodak
Exhale Printer Series
UI Design, Icon Design.
Kodak had launched an internal initiative to align all of their UIs under one visual style - they called it "Exhale."
They needed to re-design the menu interface for a new series of printers they were bringing to market, but had limits to how much they could change the interaction models - all the while trying to stay consistent with the "Exhale" initiative.

Microsoft
adCenter Focus Groups
Information Architecture, Visual Design, Information Graphics.
The adCenter Desktop project described above came out of this product - Microsoft's search marketing platform: adCenter.
Microsoft needed help understanding what their customers wanted, and why they were choosing certain other products over adCenter. They wanted help redesigning the information architecture of their existing application, iterating on a few different visual designs to present to focus groups, and wanted to represent those focus group findings visually so they could plan the next phase of their product.

Boston Red Sox
Employee Ticketing Application
Information Architecture, Visual Design, Interaction & UI Design.
One of the main perks of working at the Boston Red Sox is the access that employees get to Red Sox tickets.
There was an arcane method of requesting tickets that each employee needed to endure in order to be eligible for tickets; on top of that, there were employees that needed to manage all these ticket requests. The Red Sox needed a spartan web application that would make both the Ticket Request process and the Request Management tasks easier.

PHT Corporation
LogPad Interactive Demo
Information Architecture, Visual Design, Interaction & UI Design.
PHT Corporation is a market leader in software that is used by patients for clinical trials. They have an exclusive partnership with Palm, Inc. that allows patients to have a portable, network-connected interface allowing them to input how they feel anywhere and at any time.
PHT needed to showcase their Palm-based Logpad product, and wanted to create a Flash demo that allowed potential clients to create a mock-study and view it just as any patient would.
This Flash demo was featured on Palm's website.

Procter & Gamble
Gillette Phenom Concepts
Information Architecture, Visual Design.
Gillette was on the verge of launching the worldwide campaign for its latest product: the Gillette Fusion Phenom razor, and they needed a different spin on the types of product-based websites they were used to in the past.

PHT Corporation
Studyworks
Information Architecture, Visual Design, Interaction & UI Design.
The Logpad project described above showcased what patients use in clinical trials to record how they feel throughout the course of the trial; But PHT wanted to redesign how the Study Coordinators managed all the patients and the data they were recording that was so important for their clients.
They needed help defining the different tasks Study Coordinators did on daily basis, and needed a web-based UI that would make the management and recording of trial data that much simpler.
